The new fashion history venue – Palazzo Morando – Costume Moda Immagine – was inaugurated on March 1st, 2010. It aims to showcase the extraordinary artistic heritage of the ex Museum of Milan and, at the same time, highlight the patrimony of garments and accessories preserved in the Civiche Raccolte d’Arti Applicate (Civic Collection of Applied Arts) in the castle of Milan.

The interior of the Palazzo Morando is characterized by Rococo style, with a stone staircase, spacious halls, beautiful rooms with mirrors in carved frames, fireplaces and decorations. It was the Countess Lydia Caprara, who donated this building with all its furnishings to the City of Milan in 1945, when it became home to the Museum.

The “Milano città d’acqua” exhibition – at Palazzo Morando until February 14th, 2016 – is dedicated to the Lombard city’s canals, rivers, millraces, torrents – a fine web of waterways that has played an important role in the history of this metropolis.

Palazzo Morando in Milan hosts the exhibition Milano Tra Le Due Guerre (Milan Between The Two Wars), a retrospective dedicated to the photographs of Arnaldo Chierichetti (1887–1975).. The 140 works on display are a tribute to Milan and its canals, which in the period between the two World Wars were still a prominent feature of the city.

Palazzo Morando was opened to the public in 1958. In 1963, the Museum of War and Resistance was inaugurated on the ground floor, later called the Museum of Contemporary History. In 2010 Palazzo Morando was designed to house the Fashion and Costume collection of the City of Milan.
